What’s in your Meat: Antibiotics and Endocrine Disruptors
Day 194
My friend Audra tagged me in a note on Facebook that linked to this article.
She dedicated the note to me as we are always chatting over IM about how we have both radically changed the way we eat over the past year. In fact, if you want to hear more about how things are going for her then click on the picture below:

Audra is celiac and had has to radically overhaul her diet because of it AND she has gone meatless. Please visit her blog. It’s a darn fine read.

Poll Results
Days 134 & 135
"Are zoos as a whole good or bad for animals?" was the poll question and it looks like
55% of you thought they were good for animals while 44% consider them bad for animals.
This seems like a hot topic and from the comments on my Facebook page it seems like it may depend on the quality of the zoo itself and not zoos as a whole.
Speaking of Facebook, if you want to comment on this topic or any other blog topic then please put a reply in the comments section of this blog and not my personal Facebook page. Why? I want people who see this blog to see what other people think and they can’t do that if the comments are posted to my personal Facebook page where not everybody who reads this blog has access to.

Three Months of Being Meatless!
Day 93
I have made it three months without eating meat!
But, when it comes to the vegan aspect of my diet, I have inadvertently cheated because so many products have egg and dairy ingredients hidden inside of them! I think I will apply the same qualification to my vegan rule that I do to my whole egg rule; if it is a mixed in ingredient it is okay. Sound fair?
That being said, I think I will probably not be continuing as a vegan when my first meatless year ends in November. I may stay veggie but being vegan is just being too picky. If one eats organic eggs and organic dairy products they are still being kind to animals so maybe that is a win-win situation. We shall see when that time comes what I will choose.
Today I feel so good. I haven’t felt bloated or drowsy after a meal in months. And I have lost—wait, let’s save that for an entry all its own later in the week.
Some friendly reminders:
- E-mail me your meatless recipes at meatlessman@yahoo.com. They don’t have to be vegan, just meatless. If you know me in the “real” world and live nearby and have a meatless recipe then e-mail me and maybe we can videotape you making that recipe and post it on YouTube! You don’t have to be a vegetarian to submit a recipe; you just have to have a meatless dish of your own!
- I am on Facebook and Twitter. Join me on there, won’t you?
- See something in one of my entries that doesn’t seem to ring true? Please call me out on it in the comments section. This blog is supposed to be informative and I try to present the information I pass on to the best of my knowledge but sometimes I do occasionally miss something. Please let me know so we can better enlighten others out there. It is a big help and very much appreciated.

Interlude: What is Meatless Monday?
Day 71A friend of mine, Chuck Kelly, recently told me of a thing called Meatless Monday. It’s a concept where meat eaters cut out meat once a week. The goal of Meatless Monday is to “reduce meat consumption by 15% in order to improve personal health and the health of our planet”. You can check out their official website here and they also have a Facebook page here.
Chuck is also a film producer who has worked with Ed Asner and David Faustino among others. He is currently making a documentary on the meatless movement in this country. You can check out his production company here and his Facebook page here. Tell Chuck that Jason sent you!

4 Weeks of Meatlessness!
Day 29
I have made it a whole 4 weeks without meat!
I have lost 7 lbs. and am down to 205 lbs.
I have received many supportive comments on my Facebook page and in my Facebook inbox.
Many positive e-mails have appeared in my Yahoo account too!
And this blog has had over 700 visits since I started it on 11/02/09!
Spread the word if you know someone who wants to give up meat or has already done away with it.
If I can do it, anyone can!
Talk to you soon.

2 Weeks of Meatlessness!
Day 15
I have now gone fourteen straight days without meat and I still feel great!
A big thank you goes out to the loyal readers and friends who have lent me their moral support in this endeavor! As of this writing this blog has had over 350 visits in just over two weeks!
If you have some feedback or useful tips that you want to share please post it in the comment section so people who don’t know me in real life or through Facebook can see what you have to say too. After all, one of the goals of this blog is to share what we know about eating healthier with others. Let’s let the people who just stumble upon this site through links and random searches share in any useful information we may uncover together.
And here is the official A Man Finally Eats his Veggies: A Meatless Year e-mail address: Meatlessman@yahoo.com in case you want to send me an e-mail.

Is it Wrong to Eat Meat?
Day 9
Just over a week and I am still meatless and feeling good. I thank all the readers for their supportive comments on Facebook and in the blog itself.
Of course there are also the friends and people that are teasing and tempting me with meat products. They describe their steak dinners to me or promise to serve me succulent prime rib once my meatless year ends. They aren’t being malicious they just are having a little bit of fun while expressing that they love meat.
That’s great because I love meat too! I feel better physically not having it but I have nothing against the taste of it or the people that eat it. I’m not doing it to make a political point either. While I do think there are more humane ways the beef and poultry industries could treat their livestock, I don’t think the killing and consumption of animals is necessarily evil.
I have been told, “We have incisors for a reason” and there is such a thing as a food chain. Yeah, I can buy into all that.
I’m just doing this to see how it improves my health folks. So far so good.
In short, I believe carnivores and vegetarians have good reasons for choosing what they eat. A individual has the right to choose what they put on their plate.
However, trying something different once in a while never hurts. Just a thought.
Talk to you soon.
