Weekly BMI Numbers for 8/2/10

Days 268 - 274

I have been inadvertently switching my BMI and fat numbers for the last few weeks in the entries. That is what one gets for writing before their first cup of coffee of the day. Here are the corrected numbers for those weeks:

7/19/10
FAT 15.1
BMI 22.2
Waist 33"

7/26/10
FAT 18.0
BMI 22.6
Waist 33"

And now, my BMI numbers for 8/2/10 are:

FAT 15.6
BMI 22.3
Waist 33.5"


Looks like my fat and BMI numbers have gone down while my waist has gone up half an inch! How can that be? Well, more exercise is needed. I have begun to slack in that area lately. Now where is that cup of coffee?

BMI 18.0
Waist 33"


Looks like my fat and BMI numbers have gone upwhile my waist has stayed the same. I will have to work on getting those first 2 numbers down again...

BMI 15.1
Waist 33"


Looks like my fat and BMI numbers have gone down while my waist has stayed the same. As long as they don’t shoot back to unhealthy levels I can live with these numbers.

Monday BMI Numbers for 7/12/10

My BMI numbers for 7/12/10 are:

15.2 FAT
22.6 BMI
Waist 33"


My fat and waist size numbers have gone down but it looks like my BMI went up. My ideal BMI weight range at my gender, age and height is 147 - 162 lbs. I am within the low half of that range but still have some spare tire that needs trimming in my midsection.

16.4 FAT
22.0 BMI
Waist 33-1/4"


My fat and BMI numbers have gone down but it looks like my waist size went up by ¼”. All in all, not bad progress.

Monday BMI Numbers for 6/28/10

My BMI numbers for 6/28/10 are:

16.5 FAT
22.5 BMI
Waist 33.5"

Again, it looks like my waist stayed the same, my fat percentage went up while my BMI decreased—a reversal of last week’s reading it seems. Hopefully, I will have a weight update entry coming very soon. I do apologize once again for not updating more often as of late. You wouldn’t believe how busy I have been the past two months—especially in the last week alone!

It looks like my waist stayed the same, fat percentage went down while my BMI increased by .2 % again. Not a bad reading for this week I’d say.

What is your BMI?

Days 172 & 173


No, the item in the above picture is not a new video game controller. It is, in fact, a Fat Loss Monitor. When used properly it helps estimate the percentage of body fat one has, their Body Mass Index (BMI) and what body fat range one falls in; low (underfat), normal (healthy), high (overfat) or very high (obese).

I have asked the nice people at my local Y now to measure my body fat and BMI numbers with their fat loss monitor a few times in the past few months. Finally, I figured if I was getting it checked this often anyways why not just buy a monitor of my own? So a few weeks ago I broke down and bought one and when it arrived on 4/12 I went about using it for the first time.

After programming the fat loss monitor with my sex, age, height, current weight and another factor or two that I can’t remember right now, I was ready to find out my body fat percentage and BMI. After pressing the start button I gripped the handles of the monitor and squeezed as the monitor manual instructed.

My numbers were:

22.2 FAT
24.6 BMI

When I used it again this Monday (4/19) my numbers were:

20.0 FAT
24.6 BMI


According to this chart:


I am borderline healthy/overfat for my age group, 20 – 39. It also looks like my fat went down a little while my BMI stayed the same. I didn’t know that was possible.

147 - 162 lbs is the ideal range of weight I should be according to reverse BMI calculating. This calculator here is just one of the ones I used to find that range.

At the presentation I did on going meatless at the AAPC meeting two days ago (more on how that went in a future entry), a member pointed out that muscle gain may skewer the BMI number in the future when entering weight into the fat loss monitor. This is a good question to ask the people at my local Y. Sure, I have a neat new weight loss toy but will it be useless if I obtain more and more muscle?
