FOUR Months of Being Meatless!
Today I have been meatless for four whole months! That’s a third of year without beef, pork, poultry, fish, seafood or whole eggs!
I have lost 33 lbs since November 2nd and have so much more energy than before I made the switch! I can’t remember when was the last time in my adult life I have had such long stretches of get-up-and-go. Come to think of it, lack of energy has been the bane of my existence,as far back as college and even early high school.
Now I think I have finally found a way to kick this lack of energy problem square in the ass.
Stick around folks. There are more good things on your way in the coming months in this meatless blog o’ mine.

Pump it Up!
Day 108 and I still feel great. Lots of energy and the weight is coming off at a healthy rate.
So now it’s time to add some muscle.
At the Y a few days ago I got to talking to one of their trainers, Steve. We talked about how building up muscle helps burn fat calories faster and that eventually one hour on the elliptical everyday was eventually going to have less of an effect on my system. With all that in mind I set a training appointment with him for 10 am on Friday. I will let you know how that goes.

Weight Update for February 2010!
I am over a third of the way to my weight loss goal of 149 lbs!
I have lost 24 lbs since November 2nd and continue to have plenty of energy!
Here are the pictures I took today:
And here’s another bit of good news. Yesterday at the YMCA where I workout, I had my body mass index (BMI) taken. Jayne, the YMCA Fitness Director, who took my BMI for me back in December, asked how the meatless diet and blog were going and I told her of all the pounds I lost and the tremendous response this blog has been receiving. Dawn, the Physical Director, overheard this and we started up a conversation in which she asked me if I would come in and briefly speak with a weight loss group at the Y this Saturday morning. I told her I would love to and now Saturday morning the Meatless Year Blog has its first public speaking gig!

‘Twas the Week Before Christmas

‘Twas the week before Christmas
And all throughout the week
I have been preparing for the New Year
It is the opposite of bleak
My shopping is done, both grocery and gift
I have been working out, lately
It has given me a lift
Organizing plans for Two-thousand and ten
It makes one remember; where one has been
I have given up meat; red, white and fish
So far I feel better
What more could a person wish?
The energy has gone up and the weight is going down
The Y is affordable; the best deal in town
As the year closes one should stop and reflect
So a week off from the blog it will be
Yes, a break from my dreck ;)
I look forward to the New Year and so should you
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
From me to you!

I Dream of Meat
For me, there are a few signs that a new diet is working.
Weight loss – I was 212 lbs. when I started going meatless on November 2nd.

Another sign is that I have a steadier stream of energy. I continue to feel great with the exceptions of a few blips on the radar here and there. Otherwise, I feel much better than when I was eating meat.
Better digestion. That one speaks for itself.
The last sign of a new diet working may only apply to me. It’s a strange one:
I dream of the foods I’m avoiding.
You heard that right. Meats are invading my dreams! They have been kicked off of my meal plate so they are trying to sneak into my psyche!
Last night I dreamt I had to eat at McDonald's so I ordered a salad. On top of the salad greens were strips of bacon! Under the salad was a fine layer of chilled, pre-cooked ground beef. It was firmly coating the bottom of my wooden salad bowl (since when does McDonald’s have true dinnerware?!) and was an unavoidable presence.
Waking before I could put any beef or pork in my mouth, I was relieved that it was only a nightmare.
The same thing happened to me when I first did the Atkins Diet years ago. Around that time I dreamt I robbed a donut stand at an airport! Yeah, I know, weird and random.
And yes, I have done the Atkins Diet in the past. It does take off pounds quickly but they come right back if you go off of the diet plan. Not worth it for that and a few other reasons.

Made it though my first fully meatless week!
It has been a full week since I have started going meatless.
How do I feel?
I have more energy throughout the day even when I go to bed at night.
Sometimes I am so busy I only get 6 hours of sleep and I still feel rested. (I do try to get 7-8 hours when possible.)
I do not feel starved or ravenous between meals.
When I do eat meals I feel satisfied but never stuffed.
My digestion is better. I’m more regular too.
I even lost 2 pounds!
Yeah, this feels great.
Years of feeling tired and all it took was cutting out meat, cutting down profusely on desserts and junk food and just eating balanced meals that include vegetables.
Also, I want to thank the readers who have been following throughout the first week for their support and feedback. It is greatly appreciated.
Keep checking out this space for more updates on my progress and tell your friends to stop on by—especially if they are considering trying to eat healthier.
One week down, fifty-one to go.
Talk to you soon.
