Days 279 - 282
First off, I thank you all very much for the extremely kind words and congratulations on my reaching my weight loss goal last week. I could not have done this without the advice and support of the blog’s many readers. Once again, thank you all.
Aside from the congratulations and compliments on my trimmer frame, many people have been asking me what is next—some even wondering if this is the end of the blog.
Why would it be? I started going meatless on November 2nd of last year and fully intend to continue chronicling this meatless year which has now become what I hope to be my first meatless year of a meatless life. Much like on that first day last autumn when I started giving up beef, chicken, pork, fish/poultry and whole (unprocessed) eggs, meeting the weight loss goal is a new beginning of sorts. I have now taken off the excess weight I don’t need so what do I do with what is there?
Keep reading the blog people. Weight loss is just one aspect of this whole meatless matter but it is not everything by far. Still, it is nice to be fit and trim!
Talk to you soon!

Weight Update: The Big One
Day 278
Well, it looks like good things come in threes.
Earlier this week I passed the 9 months meatless mark, then the meatless blog reached over 5,000 visits to and now it is time for a weight update. A very important weight update.
What makes this one so much more important compared to past weight updates?

That is right. As of yesterday, August 5th, 2010, I reached my weight loss goal of 147 lbs—actually, just below it at 146! That's a loss of 66 lbs since 11/2/10 which was just over 9 months ago!
The BMI range for my age, height and gender is 147 – 162 lbs. Like a kid who encounters a new swimming pool for the first time I just had to touch the bottom of the deep end just once—even if just for a day, even if just for five minutes!
I have done many diets over the years but never reached a weight loss goal. Now, by changing my eating habits (not doing dieting) and exercising I have made my weight loss goal a reality at long last!
And, once again, I want to thank you all for your support! To my blog readers for all the info and well wishes, Facebook friends who have positively commented on pictures of my weight loss results and friends and family who I see in person everyday and have seen the difference in how I look and let me know that I am on the right track for better health. Thank you all. It means so much to me.
Now enjoy some more pictures:

Friends in Meatlessness
Days 30 and 31
It has now been officially one month since I have gone meatless, November 2nd – December 2nd.
It also seems like I’m not alone in examining my eating habits!
Artist extraordinaire, Jade Arcade, has mentioned my blog in his blog at http://jadearcade.blogspot.com/ where his latest entry discusses the possibility of going meatless. He was also kind enough to post a link to this blog. Thanks Jade!
You can also visit his official website at http://www.jadearcade.com/ and it’s worth the time to stop by folks.
Are you thinking about going meatless? If so then I want to hear from you. Maybe, with your permission, we can share your thoughts about cutting out meats with others who are pondering dropping meat from their diets.
Send me an e-mail at meatlessman@yahoo.com and let me know your thoughts.
Also, send me any links you have that you would like me to mention or post on the side of my blog in the links section. It doesn’t have to be food related either. Just send me an e-mail.

Clean off Your Plate!
Days 18 and 19
When I was a wee lad the policy at my house was that you couldn’t leave the table unless you finished everything on your plate. Needless to say, this led to many long hours at the dining room table by myself and turned me into an expert food smuggler.
I was a picky eater as a kid and wouldn’t finish what was on my plate because I either didn’t like it or I was too full. It instilled a lifelong sense of guilt in me if I didn’t consume everything served to me at mealtime. Looking at my eating habits recently has led me to believe this is actually an unhealthy eating habit.
When full you don’t have to eat the rest. Stop when you feel full and you won’t overeat. It’s just that simple. Wrap up what you have left over and save it for another meal. Or better yet, don’t take more than what you think you can eat in one sitting and think carefully when you decide how much of a portion to take.
Eating out? Ask for a doggie bag. I love doggie bags—especially if I am currently living someplace that tends to have people begging on the streets. On more than one occasion I’ve been asked for money by homeless people when coming from eating out. If I have a doggie bag with me in this situation it is theirs. They are usually very grateful and really, if you have more than enough and they have none then the logical thing is to give them your leftover slice of pizza instead of nothing at all.
