Happy Easter?!!

Day 112

In early January I noticed something really strange at my local BJ’s Wholesale. As I passed the endcap of the front most isle I noticed that it looked entirely too pastel for that time of year.

Neatly stacked on the end of the isle were tons of Easter candies!

There were Peeps, Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, Cadbury Crème eggs and many other varieties of spring themed candy. Easter is April 4th this year—this was early January!

And it wasn’t just at BJ’s, I noticed that at least a few other stores were stocking Easter candy that early as well. Can’t they wait just a little bit longer to start selling spring candy? Valentine’s Day hadn’t even arrived yet!

It seems with every year that passes I see holiday candy arrive in stores earlier and earlier. With all the sugar they pack into them they can practically last on the shelves forever so I guess they are trying to see just how much of a sales window they can have by moving up their shelf time every year.

I just really wish they would at least wait until a month or two prior to the holiday to start placing them in stores and not a whole season ahead as seems to be the increasing norm in today’s market.

No wonder we are so candy crazy one can get their fix for a Reese’s PB Egg January through April!

Oh $#*%! I Had Chocolate!

Day 66

One of my stocking stuffers this past Christmas was a bag of Lindor Truffles. Over the course of the week between Christmas and New Year’s, I devoured all 45 pieces that the shiny crimson bag contained. I was munching on them while watching movies at home, driving in the car and etc.

I got them for Christmas—what was I supposed to do, throw them out?!

I have heard horror stories of unhealthy vegetarians. These are usually people that, even though they have eliminated all meat from their diets, still eat unhealthy by devouring tons of junk food.

Why give up meat to be healthier if you still have other unhealthy eating habits you still cling to? Going meatless was also an excuse for me to look at what else I eat and to reflect upon unhealthy eating habits I’ve had in the past. A couple of examples I will write about in this space soon.

I think it’s okay to please your sweet tooth every now and then but not in regular and huge amounts. My holiday chocolate binge was an exception and not the rule.

And what a sweet exception it was.

8 Weeks of Meatlessness!

Day 57

I have gone eight weeks without eating meat of any kind.

I have stayed meatless through two major holidays.

I have started exercising everyday at my local YMCA.

I have lost 14 lbs.

This blog has now had over 1,000 visits in just under two months.

So what should I do to commemorate this special occasion?

How about with this?
