Days 207 - 211
My BMI numbers for 5/31/10 are:
16.5 FAT
23.4 BMI
Waist 34.5"
My fat has gone down while my BMI ha gone up? Is that even possible? And my waist has gone up half an inch. Ugh. Anyway, Happy Memorial Day!

It is too damn hot to update…
Days 205 & 206
Here in New England we are being hit with some serious heat. So serious it is making me laaazzzzzzyyyyyy.
I am still doing Nautilus weight training every other day like I should but I find myself not doing cardio on the opposite days. It is not really a bad thing since I am still getting in at least 3 – 4 complete workouts a week. Yes, I am still losing weight and shaping up!
As for this blog, HAHAHAHA!! Yeah, I know, I know. I haven’t been updating as often lately. The heat and job interviews have been keeping me away from writing more entries.
I will try to be better about this. Now, I am going to get an iced coffee…

200 DAYS MEATLESS!
Days 198 - 200
So it has been 200 days since I went meatless.
200 days without beef, pork, poultry, fish/seafood or whole eggs.
200 days that has transformed my body and well being for the better.
I have lost over 50 lbs, developed muscle, increased my flexibility, bettered my digestion and overall feel physically better than I have in over fifteen years.
However I also need to learn how to combat negativity in my life more. Feeling physically healthier helps but letting go of the bad stuff still takes a lot of will. It is something I will have to work on and am open to suggestions. Feel free to send ‘em my way folks and, again, thanks for supporting the blog.

What’s in your Meat: Antibiotics and Endocrine Disruptors
Day 194
My friend Audra tagged me in a note on Facebook that linked to this article.
She dedicated the note to me as we are always chatting over IM about how we have both radically changed the way we eat over the past year. In fact, if you want to hear more about how things are going for her then click on the picture below:

Audra is celiac and had has to radically overhaul her diet because of it AND she has gone meatless. Please visit her blog. It’s a darn fine read.

Looking for a film crew. Wanna volunteer?
Days 185 - 187
A few months back I was contacted by a film producer from Chicago named Chuck Kelly. Chuck has produced film projects with known talents such as David Faustino and Ed Asner. His next project is a documentary on animal abuse and after reading my blog he asked if he could interview me on film for it.
The problem is that Chuck and his crew are in Chicago and I am out in Western Massachusetts. His schedule will not allow for them to come out here to film and I currently cannot afford the time or money for a trip out to Chicago.
This being the case, Chuck and I have decided to put the word out through the Meatless Year Blog to see if any readers out here in Western Massachusetts would be willing to shoot the interview segment. Additional info from Chuck is below.
“Looking for a camera man or a small crew to donate some time to shoot for an interview for about 15 minutes for a Documentary called the "War on Animal Abuse".
The interview will be about a Western Mass writer, a lifelong meat eater who has recently gone meatless and is now blogging about it.
As the interview subject looked further into his new vegetarian lifestyle, he also found out about the abuse that animals had to suffer to die for meat production.
Equipment:
-You must have a 3 chip hi quality camera & good mic to record with.
-You will need to shoot in HD 24p so it matches what we have. If they shoot in SD it must be 16x9 24p.
-You will get full credit for this interview. This is a non-for-profit film
-You will not need to edit this footage; just shoot it and send us the tape for our editing.”
If you are in or near the Western Massachusetts area, meet all those above requirements and want to help out with Chuck’s project please contact him at chucktkelly@gmail.com.

Weight Update!!!!!!!!!
Day 184
The past week has been a great one for milestones here on the Meatless Year Blog.
- 100th Meatless Year Blog Tweet!
- A half-year of being meatless!
- 4000 visits!
And now as of yesterday morning…
I HAVE LOST 50 LBS SINCE NOVEMBER 2ND!!!!!!!
I went from 212 lbs to 162 lbs over a period of six months and one day!
I still need to get down to about 147 - 149 lbs and tone up some more but having lost 50 lbs in a relatively short time span is exhilarating!

A HALF YEAR WITHOUT MEAT!
Days 181 & 182
As of today, May 2nd, I am at the halfway point in my meatless year.
Six months without beef, pork, poultry, fish/seafood or whole eggs.
I have lost almost 50 lbs, developed more muscle, more energy, more flexibility, feel sharper, have better digestion and overall feel GREAT!
If you asked me last year on May 2nd to give up eating meat I would have laughed in your face. These past 26 weeks have taught me better. Why didn’t I try this sooner?
I feel so much better that, come to think of it, I don’t take midday naps or sleep in on the weekends as much as I used to. Every day off that I get I look for excuses to get out of the house as opposed to finding reasons to stay in like when I was more motivated to do so over six months ago.
Taking less lazy time also means having more free awake time and I have used it well brushing up on my Adobe Creative Suite skills (as you can see in this very blog) and other creative skills.
I don’t even know if I would have stayed with an exercise program, cardio and weight training, for as long as I currently have if I was still feeling rundown from eating meat and not balancing my meals properly. To my knowledge, this is the longest and most consistent that I have stuck with a regular exercise plan—five months of cardio and the last ten weeks of those have been with Nautilus weight training!
Leaving meat out of my meals has also kept me away for the most part from fast food places such as McDonald’s and Burger King—although I still have a weakness for some sweet or buttery baked goods every now and then.
Being an even better shopper has also been another great result of becoming a vegetarian. Not only do I look for healthier foods, but I am also better at hunting down better prices on them as well!
Another interesting thing, I no longer take prescription nasal decongestants. I find that I don’t need them anymore and it is a good thing—the ones I was taking had side effects of added drowsiness and hypertension. It also saves me money by not having to shell out co-pays for those three medications every month.
Taking meat out of my diet is the best thing I have done for my physical and mental health in years. It is almost like I am a new person when in reality it is just a much, much, much improved version of the one I was (Thanks for the clarification the other day Liz).
26 weeks down and 26 more to go for this year of meatless eating!
Talk to you soon!
